Do You Want to Be a Raging River or a Sludgy Pond?
Every single morning when my alarm goes off, one part of me wants to hit the snooze and go back to sleep but then some little voice deep in side asks “Do you want to be a raging river or a sludgy pond?” and that simple question gives me enough motivation to haul my butt cheeks out of bed and workout before the craziness of my day begins.
Raging river or sludgy pond? What does that mean?
This analogy is how I reference the way the body responds to “focused” exercise. “Focused” exercise is deliberate exercise designed to improve cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility and balance. “Focused” exercise is when you take that run, jump on the bike, go to a Pilates class, etc. It is not simply being active when we are just cleaning the house, doing yard work or going to the grocery store. It is that time you take to truly focus on making your body function like a raging river.
Have you ever seen a raging river? The water is moving, flushing out the toxins of the environment. It is not stagnant or still. It is strong, clean and mighty.
Have you ever seen a pond that is just sitting there? Typically there is no movement in the water. You can see all the toxins of the environment sitting in it, making it hard to see through the water’s surface. It looks kind of dormant, even dirty. And the toxins it gathers just sit there, creating sludge on the surface and into the depths of the water.
So I ask you……do you want your body to work like a raging river or a sludgy pond?
Personally, I would rather “Rage”….I feel stronger, more alert and better overall.
So now it is time for you to “Rage”……And I can help!
